Taking a step back, I recognized that, amidst the pursuit of professional success, what matters most is not only achieving goals but also respecting my personal limits and finding a balance between the things that matter most.
In 2022, after having continuous success year after year in real estate, I found myself standing at the crossroads of my career, grappling with burnout in the demanding real estate market. It was a stark realization that I am not invincible. This pivotal moment forced me to take a step back to reevaluate my life and where I found true fulfillment.
The journey to this point was filled with challenges that I overcame one after another. In 2013, after completing my studies at London Metropolitan University, I came to the United States from Germany. What started as a one-year internship at a luxury hotel in Los Angeles turned into a life-changing decision. It was always my plan to return to Germany, but in 2014, I got married and fully embraced my new life here.
As a concierge at a luxury hotel, I honed invaluable customer service skills, navigating the intricate demands of high-net-worth clientele. The birth of our daughter in 2016 prompted a move to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where my husband’s family had planted their roots. We both loved Los Angeles but knew this move would be the best decision for our daughter.
Once again, I left behind everything I knew to start fresh. As an outsider coming in, it was daunting to imagine rebuilding my life. There are no luxury hotels in the area, so not only did I have to adjust to a new community but also a new career. I thought to myself: What can I do that will enrich the lives of others?
Leveraging my background in high-end service, I transitioned to real estate. There were many things working against me: I didn’t know anyone, I was new to the industry, and I was a non-native English speaker. However, these obstacles only made me work that much harder.
That first year was marked by learning, demonstrating my value and showcasing my client-oriented approach. I did all of this while caring for a newborn. It was a difficult time, but it also defined my ongoing success in the industry. When things get difficult, I don’t give up; I rise up to the challenge every time. I do things the right way and accept nothing but the best on my client’s behalf.
It was this mindset that caused me to take a step back in 2022. My clients deserve 100% from me, and after working 70+ hours a week, I felt I could no longer deliver that. I knew it was time to pause and reflect on what I wanted for my future. Despite being physically healthy, the realization that I, too, had limits hit hard.
As a top-producing agent, I was constantly working without considering what I actually enjoyed doing. It took a long time to finally understand that I recharge my batteries from helping others succeed. From raising my kids to guiding clients and mentoring colleagues, I want to contribute to the success of others. That is my ultimate desire in life.
Having a clear vision for my future in real estate and wanting to mentor and coach while also serving my clients, I jumped back into the industry with a better understanding of balance and where my fulfillment comes from.
Transitioning to eXp Realty has allowed me to uphold my commitment to what's best for my clients, my colleagues, and my family. eXp Realty’s systems and processes, as well as their unmatched support and opportunities, have set me up for ongoing success while providing a work-life balance. This is a new chapter in my career where my drive and motivation are even stronger than before.
Outside of work, I spend much of my time with my children, Sofia, Austin, and Makaela, my partner in life, Mike, and our many pets, including a bearded dragon, a ferret and three dogs. Family always comes first! When we get the chance, we also love traveling. Despite the challenges posed by burnout, the journey of self-discovery has redefined my priorities, leading me to a more balanced and fulfilling life.Bottom of Form
